- Mrs. Dixson was born Feb. 10, 1922, in Minnesota to Fred and Laura Larson. In 1935, their family traveled to the Matanuska Valley. Mrs. Dixson attended Palmer High School, then worked at the Palmer dormitory and at an Anchorage laundromat. She worked at a Dillingham cafe, where she met her first husband, Stanley Chmiel. They lived in Aleknagik briefly, then returned to Anchorage. In 1950, she and her children moved to Minnesota. She met and married Maurice Dixson, and they moved to Anchorage and had three children. In 1962, they moved to Chugiak. Mrs. Dixson was a homemaker and enjoyed country and gospel music, singing, and dancing with Maurice at Sons of Norway. They grew potatoes on the family farm and sold them year-round. Mrs. Dixson had been a waitress at the Cheechako Club and Bernice's Cafe in Anchorage. She was an Anchorage School District custodian through the 1970s and retired in 1982. Her family wrote: "Mom loved Jesus and rarely missed getting her family to church. She loved Alaska and telling stories of her family's experiences in the early colony days. Mom loved people and was always ready to make a pot of coffee and have a friendly visit. She was devoted to her family and raised six children while caring for aging parents, being chauffeur to many who needed a ride or any other assistance." During later years, she enjoyed going for rides, singing hymns, visiting and playing pinochle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; son, Donald Chmiel; sister, Alice Dahl; and brothers, Leonard and Laurence Larson.
