- Bio: Memorial Service for Alvin E. German, 84 of Peever, SD will be held on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 10:30 A.M. at Family Life Assembly of God Church, Sisseton, SD with Pastor Vern Donnell officiating. Pianist will be June Evenson and soloist will be Shannon Smikowski. Military Rights will be performed by Otto-Quande-Renville American Legion Post #50 and Fort Sisseton VFW Post #3342. There will be Memorial Visitation on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Family Life Assembly of God Church from 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. Private family inurnment will be at a later date. Alvin passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at St. Williams Care Center in Milbank, SD. The Cahill Funeral Chapel of Sisseton, SD is in charge of funeral arrangements.
- Alvin Elmer German was born on May 1, 1935 to Elmer and Esther (Kurrasch) German in Sisseton, SD. He attended Spring Grove #2 Country School. Alvin married Elaine Aadland on October 1, 1955 in Sisseton. To this union six children were born. Alvin lived on the family farm for all but three years of his life. He loved being a farmer. He had stock cows for many years and had dairy cattle and sold milk to Valley Queen. Alvin drove school bus for 35 years for the Sisseton Public School. He was a member of the National Guard in the heavy mortar division and won many awards for his marksmanship and sharpshooting. Alvin enjoyed deer hunting and loved to play cards, especially “Smear” with his brother-in-law but his favorite was Whist! He loved to “tinker” in his shop, paint tractors, and fix his machinery, etc. He was an Old Country Western fan and enjoyed all the old singers and players especially Ernest Tubbs. He loved rodeos, watching bull riding, and going to horse sales. Alvin was on the Spring Grove township board for many years. He was a good friend and neighbor. Alvin could strike up a conversation with anyone. He was in the mall one day sitting by a man we didn’t recognize. Later we asked him who the man was, he said “I don’t know, but he sure was a nice fellow.”
- Alvin is survived by his wife Elaine German of Milbank; children Sandra (Bruce) Carstensen of Sioux Falls, Deloria (Rodney) Reyelts of Milbank, Lela (Steve) Kurkowski of Watertown; daughter-in-law Dani Jo German of Sisseton; sisters Mrs. Elaine Krone of Peever and Mrs. Darlene Gabrielson of Cambridge, MN; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, family and friends.
- Alvin was preceded in death by his parents; children Alvin Jr., Heidi Ann, Eric John; granddaughter Melanie Reyelts; sister Betty Wren.
