    • She came by train to Van Hook, ND, in June of either 1917 or 1918 along with her mother and three sisters. They were met by their father with a horse and buggy. He had built a one room shack about 1 1/2 miles north of the present New Town, Mountrail County, ND, in Osborn Township. He later added one more room to serve as the kitchen.

      Myrtle Christine Wadholm was born on April 12, 1915 at Veblin, South Dakota, the third daughter of Tobias (Thomas) Wadholm and Charlotte (Hartland) Wadholm. She came by train to Van Hook, North Dakota in June of either 1917 or 1918 along with her mother and three sisters. They were met by their father with a horse and buggy. He had built a one-room shack about one and a half miles northeast of present New Town, in Osborn Township. He later added one more room to serve as the kitchen.
      On June 3, 1936 she and Elmer Waller were married at Stanley, North Dakota. Elmer was the son of Henry and Isabella Waller of liberty Township in Mountrail County. They lived in Van Hook and Sanish until 1942 when they moved to the Los Angeles area. They had three children, Delores, Myron, and Leroy.
      Delores Ione was born January 30, 1938 on a place that Louise and Ernest had rented by a CCC dam north of the Marvin Estvold farm and it was the coldest day of the year. Delores was married to Jerome Tucker in California and is a registered nurse at Riverside School for the deaf. Their children are: Daniel Jay, Steven Jerome, Linda Estelle, and Michael Allen.
      Myron Elmer was born December 23, 1939 at Van Hook, North Dakota. He owns Fuels injection, repairs pumps and fuel injectors. He was married to Kathy Lois Robinson on March 30, 1962. They have one son, Eric Scott. Myron adopted Kathy's two children, Leslie Jean Pickwith and Kirk Wayne Pickwith.
      Leroy Henry Waller was born August 28, 1941 at Stanley. He has a daughter, Leanna Christine Waller.
      Elmer passed away June 12, 1984. Myrtle still resides at Los Angeles. She has one brother, Theodore Paul Wadholm of New Town, North Dakota and seven sisters, Marie Dahl, Hjordis Harr, Louise McKay, Lorena Bastian, Grethe (Gertie) Hornaday, Edith Wilber, and Mavis Slind.

      I remember we picked cow chips for our mother so she could bake bread. If they were to wet, we would turn them over to let dry a few days and go back and get them. We would carry a gunny sack for them and drag it behind us. Remember there wasn't any trees.

Waller, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2011, at the age of 95, at Cerbat Guest Home, where she lived for the past 15 months. She was born on April 12, 1915, at Sisseton, S.D., to Norwegian immigrants Tobias (Tom) Wadholm and Charlotte (Lottie) Hartland. She was very proud of her Norwegian heritage, but never had the opportunity to visit the "homeland." She was a very strong woman who worked hard all of her life.She spent her childhood on a homestead farm at Van Hook, N.D., in a one-room tarpaper shack with her five sisters and one brother. Siblings, Louise, Lorene, Gertie and Theodore, along with half-sisters Marie and Hjordis, all preceded her in death. Two sisters, Edith Wilber of New Town, N.D., and Mavis Slind of Jamestown, N.D., are surviving.In 1936, Myrtle married Elmer Waller and they had three children born in North Dakota. Shortly after Pearl Harbor, she traveled by rail to Southern California, settling in the Paramount area. Elmer had traveled to California looking for work the year before.During WWII she worked at Firestone Tire Company making fuel tanks for military aircraft. After that and until retirement, she worked at several garment manufacturing companies. She was always the lead sample maker, making sample garments for the salesmen to show to prospective department stores and higher-end dress shops. She was always the lead top-stitcher.Elmer passed away in 1984, leaving her a widow. She lived in their home by herself for the next 23 years, doing all of her own housework and gardening. She never drove, but instead liked to walk, nearly a mile every day.Myrtle came to Kingman in 2007 to live with her daughter after having a mini stroke. She is survived by that daughter, Delores Schattler of Kingman and a son, Leroy Waller of Anaheim, Calif. Another son, Myron Waller of La Mirada, Calif., died in 2007. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Michael and Steven Tucker of Kingman, Daniel Tucker of Lakewood, Calif., Linda Klaas of San Jose, Calif., Leanna Waller of Long Beach, Calif., and Eric Waller of Virginia Beach, Va. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren.Sutton Memorial Funeral Home in Kingman is handling arrangements. Services and burial will be at Forest Lawn, Cypress, Calif.
