    • Lanny Vail, 84, of Bowman joined his wife and went home to be with the Lord on March 18, 2022.
    • Lanny was born on Wednesday, February 9th, 1938 to Jack & Bernice Vail about 14 miles north of Bowman. He joined his brother Larry and sister JoAnne. He grew up on a farm seven miles northwest of Bowman and attended Star School from first grade until he went to high school. He graduated from Bowman High School in 1956 with few or no honors like his goofy friends. Following his high school graduation, Lanny went to work for John Deere in Bowman.

Lanny continued his education in Minneapolis, attending night classes at Dunwoody trade school. He supported himself by working at Honeywell during the day until 1958 when he returned to Bowman and went to work for Einer Mandel's Mobil Service Station.
    • Lanny found true love when a pretty, sparkly blue-eyed blonde from Rhame caught his attention. Carol Oakland stole his heart and they were married in 1959 at the Rhame Lutheran Church. The two started a life of working hand in hand when they bought the service station the same year they were married.
    • Their work at the service station lasted more than seven years, when he and Carol sold the business and opened Vail's Friendly Furniture, a business they would run together for 36 years. The furniture store became a hub of conversation, and he would offer a Coke to everyone who came in to visit them.
    • They were blessed to be able to work hand in hand together all their married life. Lanny always joked that "Carol was the brain, and I was the brawn!"
    • Lanny and Carol's marriage brought two children, Myron (Tiger), and Sandra (Snook), and in 1967 the four of them built their family home together.
    • In the fall of 1970, Carol and Lanny became dedicated followers of Jesus Christ and the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His only regret was they did not do this earlier. Lanny always said they were continuously grateful for the blessings bestowed upon them from God.
    • The two are charter members of the Bowman Assembly of God church. They enjoyed serving in every way they could at the church and with their church family. Lanny and Carol loved to read scripture together, and he was always proud at reading the Bible from cover-to-cover, something he accomplished more than 48 times.
    • Lanny served in the church and in his community. He was a member of the Bowman Fire Department for more than 33 years and was very proud of his time with the department.
    • It was hard to miss Lanny in a room. His can-do positive attitude was always on display and he never missed an opportunity to say hi every time you crossed his path. He'll be remembered for his signature suspenders and knee-slapping one-line jokes. He loved to tell stories and would offer his help whenever he had the opportunity. He restored many antique International tractors and was very creative and somewhat of an engineer with his several creations, most notably his twin-headed tractor.
    • Lanny's legacy will live on through his two children Myron (Lori) Vail and Sandra (Stan) Segal, five grandchildren, Forrest (Sharyn) Vail, Brent (Shannon) Vail, Leah (Cole) Benz, Parker Segal, and Sara Segal, and six great-grandchildren Aria, Jaxton, and Serenity Vail, and Collins, Berk, and Banks Benz, and sister-in-law Barb Vail and his treasured church family.
    • He is preceded in death by his soulmate Carol, an infant son, parents Jack & Bernice Vail, a brother Larry Vail, and a sister JoAnne Fisher and brother-in-law Jerry Fisher.
