- Bio: Lorraine A. Brinkman, age 93, Sheridan, Wyo. died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005, in Memorial Hospital, Sheridan County.Lorraine was born Oct. 2, 1912, on the farm outside Veblen, to Casper & Sara (Snortland) Risdall.Lorraine grew up on the farm and graduated from Veblen High School. She played on the varsity basketball team in high school. Lorraine graduated from Bellingham Normal School, Bellingham, Wash., receiving her teaching degree. She married John O. Lien on June 21, 1934, in Veblen. They lived on the farm, and she cooked for the road crew of the construction company.She organized and was the first president of the Parent Teacher Association in Veblen. In 1953, they moved to Breckenridge, Minn., where she cooked and was the bookkeeper for the construction company.They moved to Big Stone City in 1958, where she was assistant. manager of KDIO radio and had her own radio program.In 1962, they moved to Flandreau, and she worked at the Flandreau Indian School as a dorm mother. Mr. Lien died in 1966. Lorraine married Dr. Walter Brinkman on Oct. 2, 1976, in Langford. She retired, and they moved to Sisseton. Dr. Brinkman died in 1982. In 1984, she moved to Black Hawk, to be near her brother.Lorraine came to Sheridan in September 2005, to be near her son. Lorraine was a member of the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church in Piedmont.She enjoyed her flower garden, traveling, crossword puzzles, making afghans, and needle point.Lorraine was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Jane; and two brothers, Clayton and Jarvis Risdall.Lorraine is survived by her son, John Lien and wife Pat, Story, Wyo.; daughter, Mary Ollenburg and husband Robert Dickensheets, Seattle, Wash.; brother, Earl Risdall and wife Jeanne, Rapid City; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Visitation was one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.Funeral services were at 2 p,m, on Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Piedmont Valley Lutheran Church, Piedmont, with Pastor Tim Stadem and Pastor Will Olsen officiating. Interment was at 3 p.m. Friday in Veblen. Local arrangements are with Kinkade Funeral Chapel. Sturgis.
